# 56 New Life Hamlets Being Built in Darlac

A vertical photo-sheet (code SP-1249) reports that between 2 and 22 June 1966 Darlac province opened 22 of 56 planned new-life hamlets, housing 22,777 Kinh and highland people, each with defences against Communist sabotage. Photographs show hamlet residents digging trenches, barbed-wire fencing, a Chieu Hoi information official addressing a crowd and the province chief among villagers. Figures, defences and named officials are given together under a closing slogan, 'Cooperation and construction bring progress', with no mention of how residents came to live there.
