# Barrio Health and National Progress poster (English poster distributed in Manila)

A sheet on rural health in the Philippines: a green-tinted detail of a Carlos Francisco mural beside a text on the barrio health worker, and four photographs of a physician on call, a rural health unit, a UNICEF-marked truck and a school inoculation. It says the Rural Health Unit began in the joint Philippine-American development program and was helped by WHO and UNICEF. The tell is transfer, attaching a national mural and international agencies to the program, with glittering generalities in 'national progress'.

BARRIO
HEALTH AND
NATIONAL
PROGRESS

The direct health guardian of some 20 million Filipinos living and working in the rural areas is the RURAL HEALTH WORKER--the barrio doctor, nurse, midwife, or sanitary inspector.
The Rural Health Unit was started by the joint Philippine-American development program. It is now a vital arm of health work in this country.

from a mural by Carlos Francisco

1. Barrio physician answers sick call in an isolated sitio in Northern Luzon.
2. Rural health centers throughout the country provide needed medical help to barrio people.
3. International agencies, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), have helped the Philippines expand its rural health services.
4. Barrio school children are inoculated periodically against communicable diseases.
