# The Flag That Fans Freedom's Flame

A large waving US flag fills the sky behind a Statue of Liberty drawn from below, the torch held up so the flag's folds appear to fan its flame. There is no caption in the picture. The technique tell is transfer: the authority and emotion of the flag and the statue are joined to the idea of freedom, with glittering generalities in the abstract value invoked.
