# Cam Ranh: New Land of Promise

A vertical photo-sheet (code SP-1238) reports that 150 families, 832 people, left Viet Cong-disturbed areas of Phu Yen province for Cam Ranh, carried by a U.S. ship from Tuy Hoa, with photographs of loading, the crowded deck, a birth on board and the landing. The text lists what the government promises (shelter, six months of rice, land plots, roofing and 3,500 piastres) and says Cam Ranh needs at least 8,000 boatbuilders but has 3,500. The sheet presents relocation as opportunity and offers jobs and hope as the outcome, with the movement of people described only as a voluntary departure.

CAM RANH: A NEW LAND FULL OF PROMISE!

150 families, comprising 832 men, women and children, have left the area disturbed by the Viet Cong in Phu Yen Province to settle and make a living in Cam Ranh. Here it promises them security and a prosperous future with many opportunities to build a livelihood.
They have confidence because they know the Government will help them with temporary shelter for two months, enough rice for six months, 600 square metres to build a house and garden, 500 square metres for farming, roofing sheets and cement for building houses, together with 3,500$ to buy more materials. They set out carrying all their belongings and goods, from dogs and chickens to mosquito nets, blankets, trunks, motorbikes and so on...

They were carried by an American ship from Tuy Hoa to Cam Ranh.

They leave the ship to go to the new settlement.

On the arduous journey, a baby was born healthy, marking a hard journey but one full of hope for tomorrow.
