# Chiến thắng An-Phú (Châu Đốc) (Victory at An Phu, Chau Doc)

A JUSPAO poster (code SP-1220) reports the night of 18 to 19 May 1966 at the Khanh An post in An Phu. Photographs show enemy dead lying around the post, a soldier and a captive holding two rockets, a pile of captured weapons and a general pinning medals. The text gives 42 Viet Cong bodies left and 150 killed or wounded and carried off, and says the rocket markings show 'Chinese Communists' directly run the war. The Viet Cong are called 'bọn' ('gang'), and only one side's losses and captures are counted.

VICTORY AT AN PHU (Chau Doc)

JUST CAUSE always [wins and flourishes] (the last two words of the line are hard to read).

The Viet Cong ('bọn Việt Cộng') used human-wave tactics, squandering their soldiers' lives, determined to take Khanh An Post (An Phu), but in the end met a disastrous defeat before the brave fighting power of our army and people.

On the night of 18 into 19-5-66, two Viet Cong main-force battalions and one local-force company attacked Khanh An Post (An Phu) and the position of the 442nd Border Defence Company of An Phu District. Our garrison, with effective artillery support, counter-attacked fiercely and inflicted heavy losses on the Viet Cong.
Result: 42 Viet Cong left their bodies on the field - 150 Viet Cong killed and wounded were carried off by their comrades.
Weapons seized: 12 light machine guns - 1 anti-aircraft heavy machine gun - 1 rocket launcher - 1 flare launcher - 3 rifles - 1 carbine - 1 Thompson - a great deal of ammunition and military equipment.

After the battle, enemy bodies lie scattered around Khanh An post: the result of the human-wave tactic by which the Viet Cong sent innocent youths to take the fire for them.

The two rocket rounds we seized bear Chinese Communist markings and were shipped south by the North Vietnamese Communists, concretely proving that the Chinese Communists ('bọn Trung Cộng') directly direct the war of aggression against the South.

The spoils we seized were mostly made by Communist China and the Communist countries.

The Brigadier General commanding the 9th Infantry Division and Zone 41 Tactical Command pins medals on the soldiers who distinguished themselves in the victory of the Khanh An and Khanh Binh (An Phu) outposts.

WELCOME THE DETERMINATION TO FIGHT AND DETERMINATION TO WIN OF THE SOLDIERS OF THE ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM.
