# "El No... otra vez la Unidad Popular" leaflet: queues, empty shelves and ration cards (1988)

A two-colour sheet in red hand lettering sets four captions around three press photographs of shop windows and long queues and a cut-out of two family ration cards (JAP, 1972). The tell is the equation 'El No... otra vez la Unidad Popular': a No vote is tied to the shortages, black market and rationing of 1972-73 by pictures alone, with no figures and nothing from any other period.

## Text on the object

Original (Spanish) · read from the image, not independently checked

```
EL NO... OTRA VEZ LA UNIDAD POPULAR
EL NO... ESCASEZ - COLAS DESABASTECIMIENTO MERCADO NEGRO
EL NO... TARJETAS PARA COMER (JAP)
EL NO... ES RETROCEDER
[on the ration cards:] IDENTIFICACION FAMILIAR / JUNTA DE ABASTECIMIENTOS Y CONTROL DE PRECIOS N.o 14 / LA CISTERNA [remaining card text illegible]
```

English translation (machine translation by Claude, not verified by a fluent reader)

```
THE NO... THE UNIDAD POPULAR ALL OVER AGAIN
THE NO... SHORTAGE - QUEUES SUPPLY BREAKDOWN BLACK MARKET
THE NO... RATION CARDS (JAP)
THE NO... MEANS GOING BACKWARDS
[on the ration cards:] FAMILY IDENTIFICATION / SUPPLY AND PRICE CONTROL BOARD NO. 14 / LA CISTERNA [remaining card text illegible]
```

Hand-lettered captions read from the committed image. The photographs carry only shop-window signs that are too small to read; the cards are partly handwritten and partly illegible.
