# Partido por la Democracia leaflet: a giant "NO" beside five grievances (1988 plebiscite)

A small blue-ink leaflet sets a tall 'NO' beside a column of sentences that each start with 'NO han...' ('they have not...'). The tell is the slogan doing double duty: the ballot choice and the grammatical negation of every charge (truth, workers' rights, exile, state of siege), so the five accusations are listed with no reply and no evidence on the sheet, and the vote is then called a vote against 'abusos y mentiras'.

```
NO
CHILENOS: En este momento crítico y decisivo para nuestra Patria; en el Plebiscito hay que votar NO.
NO han dicho la verdad en 15 años.
NO han respetado las Conquistas, los Bienes y los Derechos de los Trabajadores ( La Previsión).
NO han terminado con el EXILIO.
NO han levantado el Estado de Sitio solo le cambiaron nombre.
Votar NO - es votar contra tantos abusos, y mentiras, del gobierno.
THE BIG 'NO'
CHILEANS: At this critical and decisive moment for our Homeland; in the Plebiscite you must vote NO.
They have NOT told the truth in 15 years.
They have NOT respected the Gains, the Property and the Rights of the Workers (Social Security).
They have NOT ended EXILE.
They have NOT lifted the State of Siege, they only changed its name.
To vote NO - is to vote against so many abuses, and lies, of the government.
