# Communists Are Your Enemy poster (Kachin, Rangoon)

A Kachin-language cartoon poster. Under the English word 'COMMUNIST' in large yellow letters, a gaunt, one-eyed man in uniform points a pistol at a small child's face while gripping the child's neck. Labels are written on his sleeve and the child's shirt. By NARA's title the message is that Communists are the viewer's enemy. The tell is fear-appeal through a caricatured aggressor threatening a child, with name-calling in the single loaded headline word.

## Text on the object

Original (Kachin) · read from the image, not independently checked

```
COMMUNIST
NI GAW NANHTE A HPYEN RAI NGA AI
[on the man's sleeve] KUNMYUNIT ANASHIN WADA
[on the child's shirt] DIMAWKARESI
```

English translation (machine translation by Claude, not verified by a fluent reader)

```
Communist
[Kachin] ... is your enemy (per NARA's title 'Communists Are Your Enemy').
[sleeve, transliterated from English] Communist dictatorship
[shirt, transliterated from English] Democracy
```

Translation of the Kachin line follows NARA's title; the sleeve and shirt words are Kachin spellings of English terms.
