# American-Czechoslovak Relations

Leaflet page 19 with four photographs of President Benes: greeting Cordell Hull, addressing Congress, meeting US soldiers at Fort Knox and laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, with text on US-Czechoslovak friendship since 1918. The tell for transfer is the pairing of the exile president with US officials, flags and the Tomb to lend their standing to the Czechoslovak government in London; the text itself is dated factual narrative.

AMERICAN-CZECHOSLOVAK RELATIONS

1. Secretary of State Cordell Hull greets President Dr. E. Benes upon his arrival in Washington, D. C.
2. President Dr. E. Benes addressing a joint session of Congress.
3. President Dr. E. Benes at Fort Knox, Ky.
4. At the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington Cemetery.

Friendship between the United States and Czechoslovakia dates back to 1918 when T. G. Masaryk who later became the first President of Czechoslovakia, proclaimed the Independence of Czechoslovakia in Washington, D. C., on October 18th.

In March 1939, the United States refused to recognize the German occupation of Czechoslovakia and subsequently granted full recognition to the Czechoslovak Government in London and to Dr. E. Benes as President of the Republic.

President Dr. E. Benes visited the United States in the Spring of 1943 as a guest of the U. S. Government. This visit confirmed and deepened the traditional friendship between the two countries.
