# Schools for All - Czechoslovakia

Page 7 of an illustrated pamphlet: three photographs of a modern school building, the old Charles University library in Prague and a student painting, with text on Czechoslovak schooling followed by a statement that education is now dead after 17 November 1939. The tell for card-stacking is the paired before-and-after of selected favourable facts (open schools, 'all German universities were opened later') against closure; the fear-appeal is the closing account of massacre, looting, book burning and deportation.

SCHOOLS FOR ALL

1 A typical modern school.
2 The old University library at Prague.

All over Czechoslovakia were fine new schools, open to every child from the age of six to fourteen. For all able pupils over fourteen, high schools, technical colleges and universities were easily available.

The Charles University of Prague, built in 1348, is the oldest university in Central Europe. All German universities were opened later.

Now education in Czechoslovakia is dead. On November 17th, 1939, Nazi stormtroopers massacred Prague students. Universities and high schools have been looted and closed, the books burned, the pupils deported to forced labour camps abroad.
