# Mass spectacle with Ceaușescu portrait, "23 August" Stadium, Bucharest, 23 September 1978

Night photograph of the festive show of the 'Daciada' at the '23 August' Stadium in Bucharest on 23 September 1978: thousands of performers in white formed into blocks and a ring on the pitch, flags along the edge, and, above a packed stand, a very large portrait of Ceaușescu with a smaller medallion portrait above it. The tell: the size of the staged crowd and the leader's enlarged portrait over it are the message, with mass participation offered in place of any statement.
