# A "dodge" that wont work

Anti-Greeley lithograph published by Currier & Ives after a drawing by J. Cameron. Greeley, with Jefferson Davis holding a whip and handcuffs behind him, asks two Black men, 'Sam' and 'Ceasar', for their votes. One replies that behind him they 'see Jeff Davis and behind him is the old lash and bondage'; the other says 'true hearted colored men' will vote for 'Mr. Lincoln's friend General Grant'. The caricature draws on Greeley's 1867 role in raising bail for Davis.
