# "Diner bij Oom Paul" (Dinner at Uncle Paul's): Dutch postcard, Kruger serves Chamberlain Transvaal soup, c.1897

Dutch lithograph postcard titled "Diner bij Oom Paul": a bearded Paul Kruger, spoon raised, offers a monocled man at left (Joseph Chamberlain, per LOC) more from a tureen labelled "Transvaalsche Soep", while a grotesque crowned figure between them eats; in the printed dialogue Chamberlain answers that it is not as tasty as he had thought. The tell: the guests are drawn as caricatures and the Transvaal is a dish the British guest finds hard to stomach (name-calling).

```
Dinner at Oom Paul's.
KRUGER: Well, Joe, would you like some more?
CHAMBERLAIN: Thanks, it is not nearly as tasty as I had thought.
```

"ze" (she/it) is ambiguous in context; rendered "it", referring to the soup. Translation is FRAME's literal rendering, machine-assisted and not verified by a fluent reader.
