# A flag the Independents will fight under

Puck centerfold by Joseph Keppler, 16 July 1884, at the Democratic convention in Chicago: a Democratic Party figure points to a banner reading 'For President G. Cleveland' while Benjamin F. Butler as a clown and John Kelly of Tammany Hall as a Native American weep in each other's arms in the foreground. Puck's own caption reads 'When party lifts a flag like this on high, small wonder clowns and demagogues should cry.'
