# 'Friends for ever' Franco-American postcard (France, January 1917)

A hand-tinted photographic postcard places a French soldier in an Adrian helmet and a US soldier in a campaign hat, arms around each other inside a laurel-ringed medallion, before intertwined French and US flags, a lighthouse and a warship. The tell is the stacking of national flags, laurel and ships around a friendship, so the image's affection is borrowed from the symbols, not shown by any act.
