# Homenagem da Revista Illustrada aos gloriosos vencedores de Canudos (Tribute of the Revista Illustrada to the Glorious Victors of Canudos)

A bust portrait of a uniformed general in epaulettes sits inside a wreath of laurel and flowers while a robed allegorical woman in a Phrygian cap sweeps a palm frond over him, trailing a ribbon of laurel; at the foot of the page soldiers advance beneath a flag past a fallen body. The tell is the allegory: the Republic figure, palm and laurel lend the prestige of victory to the commander and the army in one composition.
