# Glazed-brick panel with a striding lion, from Babylon (reign of Nebuchadnezzar II)

A panel of moulded, glazed bricks showing a lion walking left, white and yellow against a blue ground. Babylonian state architecture used animals tied to the gods as the king's setting; the prestige of the divine symbol and of the costly blue glaze attaches to the ruler who built the city.
