# Japanese Relocation (Office of War Information film), opening text card

Opening card of a 1943 U.S. government film: 'Following the outbreak of the present war, it became necessary to transfer several thousand Japanese residents from the Pacific Coast to points in the American Interior', laid over the faded film title 'Japanese Relocation' and 'Office of War Information, Bureau of Motion Pictures'. 'Transfer' and 'relocation' stand where the film's subject, forced removal and confinement, would be named (euphemism).

## Text on the object

Original (English) · read from the image, not independently checked

```
FOLLOWING THE OUTBREAK
OF THE PRESENT WAR, IT BECAME
NECESSARY TO TRANSFER SEVERAL
THOUSAND JAPANESE RESIDENTS
FROM THE PACIFIC COAST TO
POINTS IN THE AMERICAN INTERIOR.
[faded background title, partly legible:] JAPANESE RELOCATION
[faded background credit:] Office of War Information, Bureau of Motion Pictures
```

Capitalisation normalised for the display lettering, which sets the first letter large; the faded background title and credit are partly obscured by the text card.
