LA VUELTA DEL DESTERRADO

Según noticias publicadas en la prensa metropolitana, los amigos del General Porfirio Díaz, desean que regrese cuánto antes a México para que se restablesca
Se dijo en un principio, que estando muy enfermo, al grado de que estaba quedándose ciego y sordo, los médicos que en Paris estaban atendiéndolo, habían opinado, que lo que podía alargar su vida era el clima de su Patria y era neceserio que volviera a ella.
La noticia del estado grave en que se encontraba el viejo y ameritado caudillo, causó sensación en México e inmediatamente se pusieron cablegramas a Paris pidiendo informes sobre su salud y estos fueron del todo satisfactorios, pues se informó que no estaba en estado de "chochera" y vejez achacosa que se mencionaba.
Es cierto que desde su salida de México en Mayo de 1911, se fué enfermo; pero los tratamientos médicos a que ha sido sujetado, le han mejorado mucho su salud y promete vivir todavía muchos años, según el decir de sus médicos y de las personas que lo han visitado, allá....¡en el destierro!
El interés manifestado por la salud del viejo soldado, del "¡Héroe de la Paz!" demuestra que se le recuerda y no se olvida en el corazón de los buenos mexicanos, pues si bien es cierto que reconoce que como hombre cometió sus errores, también lo es que él afianzó la paz de México, lo engrandeció e hizo progresar muchísimo.
En los días en que circuló la noticia de su enfermedad se recibía de Orizaba otra relativa al ilustre desterrado aunque de diferente índole que aquella.
Una sociedad de dependientes, daba una fiesta y entre los números del programa, figuraba una película cinematográfica, de una de tantas fiestas del Centenario.
Al ver la concurrencia aparecer en la vista la arrogante y marcial figura del Señor General Don Porfirio Díaz, la emoción que produjo en ella fué inmensa y prorrumpió en un grito unánime de....¡Viva Porfirio Diaz! y los aplausos y las dianas se escucharon por espácio de diez minutos.
Sin embargo, por ahora, parece que el General Díaz no piensa volver a su Patria, adonde muy justo y debido es que venga a terminar tránquilo su vida.

According to news published in the capital's press, the friends of General Porfirio Díaz want him to return to Mexico as soon as possible so that he may recover [sic, 'restablesca']

The news of the grave state in which the old and distinguished chieftain found himself caused a sensation in Mexico and cablegrams were immediately sent to Paris asking for reports on his health, and these were entirely satisfactory, for it was reported that he was not in the state of 'dotage' and ailing old age that had been mentioned.
It is true that since his departure from Mexico in May 1911 he left ill; but the medical treatments to which he has been subjected have greatly improved his health and he promises to live many more years, according to what his doctors and the persons who have visited him say, over there....in exile!
The interest shown in the health of the old soldier, the 'Hero of Peace!', demonstrates that he is remembered and not forgotten in the heart of good Mexicans, for although it is true that he acknowledges that as a man he committed his errors, it is also true that he consolidated the peace of Mexico, made it great and made it progress very much.
In the days when the news of his illness circulated, other news arrived from Orizaba concerning the illustrious exile, though of a different kind from that one.
A society of shop clerks was giving a party and among the numbers of the programme there figured a cinematographic film of one of the many festivities of the Centenary.
On seeing the arrogant and martial figure of General Don Porfirio Díaz appear in the view, the emotion it produced in the audience was immense and it burst into a unanimous cry of....Long live Porfirio Díaz! and the applause and the bugle calls were heard for the space of ten minutes.
Nevertheless, for now, it seems that General Díaz does not intend to return to his Fatherland, where it is very just and proper that he should come to end his life in peace.
