# Lietuvos aidas, Lietuvos Taryba skelbia Lietuvos nepriklausomybę (The Council of Lithuania Proclaims the Independence of Lithuania), front page, Vilnius

Front page of the Vilnius daily Lietuvos aidas, Tuesday 19 February 1918, with the Vytis (mounted knight) seal in the masthead and a page-wide declaration under the headline 'Lietuvos nepriklausomybę' (the independence of Lithuania). The tell is the justification built from virtue terms: the declaration rests the new state on 'the right of nations to self-determination' and 'democratic foundations', and sets a democratically elected Constituent Assembly as the final authority.

Lietuvos Taryba, kaipo vienintelė lietuvių tautos atstovybė, remdamos pripažintąją tautų apsisprendimo teisę ir lietuvių Vilniaus konferencijos nutarimu rugsėjo m. 18—23 d. 1917 metais, skelbia atstatanti nepriklausomą, demokratiniais pamatais sutvarkytą Lietuvos valstybę su sostine VILNIUJE ir tą valstybę atskirianti nuo visų valstybinių ryšių, kurie yra buvę su kitomis tautomis.
