# President Medvedev in his interviews with Russia Today, CNN, BBC, TF1 and Al Jazeera on recognising Abkhazia and South Ossetia (Moscow, 26 August 2008)

Dmitry Medvedev, in a dark suit and blue tie, gestures with one hand while seated in a gilt chair, with a Russian tricolour and a red presidential standard behind him. The tell is the answer given in the interviews, where he says that in South Ossetia 'ethnic cleansing was conducted and cases of genocide took place, both in the early 90s and now', as the legal ground for recognition.
