# Faded wall slogan 'Molti nemici molto onore' signed Mussolini, Ortygia (Syracuse)

Hand-painted capital letters on a worn plaster wall read MOLTI NEMICI MOLTO ONORE (many enemies, much honour) above a facsimile signature of Mussolini. The slogan recasts hostility from abroad as a mark of virtue, with the word 'honour' standing in for any claim that could be checked, and the leader's autograph is painted in as the authority.

## Text on the object

Original (Italian) · read from the image, not independently checked

```
MOLTI NEMICI
MOLTO ONORE
[signature:] Mussolini
```

English translation (machine translation by Claude, not verified by a fluent reader)

```
MANY ENEMIES
MUCH HONOUR
[signature:] Mussolini
```

Parts of the first line are lost to flaking plaster; the words read in full. The signature is a cursive facsimile and is partly faded.
