# A New Chieu Hoi Village in Gia Dinh

A Chieu Hoi poster (code SP-1289) shows three photographs of returned Viet Cong ralliers ('quy chanh vien') building a new village at Phuong-Hoang in Go Vap district, Gia Dinh: a column with shovels, a traditional ceremony attended by officials and a U.S. officer, and a timber house frame. The text gives dates in May and June 1966 and says the government helps the ralliers to 'a new peaceful, warm life', closing with the slogan 'Chieu Hoi expresses compassion'. The sheet presents only the programme's successes and benefits, the tell of card-stacking.

NEW CHIEU HOI VILLAGE
in
GIA-DINH

On 5-5-1966, at the Central Chieu Hoi Center, 100 ralliers held a send-off ceremony to volunteer to build a Chieu Hoi village in the Phuong-Hoang area of Thanh-Loc village, Go Vap district, Gia-Dinh.

After almost a month of work levelling the ground, digging ditches and preparing enough building materials, on 24 June 1966 Mr. Dinh Thach-Bich, Assistant to the Chieu Hoi Directorate, representing the Commissioner of the Central Executive Committee [T.T.C.H.], came to preside over the ceremony of raising the new houses for the ralliers. A traditional ceremony was held right on the Phuong-Hoang site, where the village is being set up for the ralliers.
