# Nếp sống mới cho nhân dân xã Long-Hựu (New Life for the People of Long Huu Village)

A photo sheet says Long Huu village, Long An province, was 'liberated' on 7 March 1967 after 18 months under Viet Cong control, with about 8,000 residents formerly burdened by 'heavy taxes'. Photographs show an ARVN colonel handing the new village chairman the seal of office, a woman thanking the government at a microphone, 78 former Viet Cong enlisted into the Popular Forces, and busy market stalls. The account gives the government side only and counts the 103 returned fighters as the occasion's chief result.

NEW WAY OF LIFE FOR THE PEOPLE OF LONG-HUU VILLAGE

On 7-3-1967 Long-Huu village was liberated after 18 months under Viet Cong control. This village, in Long-An province, had been isolated by the Viet Cong, and nearly 8000 residents lived in great hardship under the Viet Cong's policy of heavy levies and taxes. At Tet the villagers sent representatives to the Can-Duoc district authorities asking the Government to restore security and order to the area. Government forces and the people cooperated in the pacification work. Now the shops have reopened and the markets are as prosperous as before. The school has also reopened, receiving 900 pupils. Most special of all, on this occasion 103 Viet Cong fighters returned to the government.
They are now working with the people to rebuild a good new way of life.
