# Quân xâm lược Bắc Việt lại thảm bại trong mùa mưa năm nay tại Vùng II Chiến thuật (North Vietnamese Aggressors Are Beaten Again in II Corps During This Year's Rainy Season)

A Vietnamese-language news-style sheet says that by 20 August 1966 operations Thần Phong 17 and Paul Revere in the Plei Me and Chu Prong area had killed 1,029 enemy, captured 152 and destroyed 156 defensive works and a field hospital. Photographs show Vietnamese generals viewing captured weapons and two North Vietnamese soldiers who rallied, one carrying a 12.7 mm anti-aircraft gun. The headline labels the opponent 'invading troops' and the sheet gives named defectors as proof.

NORTH VIETNAMESE INVADING TROOPS ARE DEFEATED AGAIN DURING THIS YEAR'S RAINY SEASON IN II TACTICAL ZONE

On 17 August 1966, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thieu, Major General Nguyen Cao Ky and Major General Vinh Loc visited the exhibition of weapons seized from the Communist troops in the two operations Than Phong 17 and Paul Revere.

THIS YEAR'S RAINY SEASON IS AGAIN MARKED BY SUCCESSIVE DEFEATS OF THE NORTH VIETNAMESE INVADING FORCES IN THE PLEI-ME AND CHU PRONG AREA. AS OF 20 AUGUST 1966 THE THAN PHONG 17 AND PAUL REVERE OPERATIONS OF II CORPS AND THE ALLIED FORCES HAVE KILLED ON THE SPOT 1,029 COMMUNIST TROOPS, CAPTURED 152 ALIVE, SEIZED 80 CREW-SERVED WEAPONS, 400 INDIVIDUAL WEAPONS, A LARGE QUANTITY OF UNIFORMS, DESTROYED 156 ENEMY DEFENSIVE WORKS, 346 BASE INSTALLATIONS, AND A COMMUNIST FIELD HOSPITAL. THE MOST ENCOURAGING EVENT IS THAT A LARGE NUMBER OF NORTH VIETNAMESE SOLDIERS TOOK THIS OPPORTUNITY TO RALLY TO THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF VIETNAM.

A large number of North Vietnamese soldiers have rallied to the Government of the Republic of Vietnam, among them the two men Ngo Huong and Nguyen Viet Than, who walked more than 10 kilometres in 6 hours carrying this 12.7 anti-aircraft heavy machine gun to rally. The two men have been fittingly rewarded for this heroic act.

Prime Minister Nguyen Cao Ky praises the North Vietnamese ralliers who have returned to the Government of the Republic of Vietnam to seek freedom.

Translation is FRAME's own literal rendering of the Vietnamese. 'Quy chánh' (to rally) is rendered 'rally'; 'cây số' as kilometre; 'Cộng quân' as 'Communist troops'. Operation names are kept as printed.
