Daerah ini disebelah Barat berbataskan Pegunungan Rocky dan terdiri atas negara-bagian-negarabagian Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah dan Wyoming. Ini adalah suatu daerah dengan Padang² Luas, iklim² keras, sangat panas dan sangat dingin, angin ribut jang berulang-ulang, puntjak² gunung, dan tanah² lapang jang sangat luas. Ladang² gandum dan djagung terdapat terbanjak di-dataran² rendah.
