# Now for a round-up

Uncle Sam walks away from the Capitol, where a banner reads 'Sedition law passed', dragging a bundle of small figures labelled 'Spy', 'Traitor', 'IWW', 'Germ[an] money' and 'Sinn Fein'. The union is filed in the same bundle as spies and traitors, so the wartime stigma of those labels transfers to it, and the national symbol and the Capitol lend the round-up the authority of the state.

The tag partly hidden by Uncle Sam's gripping hand is illegible in this scan; this entry's own caption (drawing on the Library of Congress catalog description) reads it as 'Germ[an] money.' Small handwritten notes beside the artist's signature in the lower right (apparently instructions to the engraver, e.g. column width) are too faint and cursive to transcribe reliably.
