# Punch, 'The Jamaica Question' (Tenniel), 23 December 1865

Full-page Punch cartoon from the Eyre controversy after the Morant Bay rising. Between a bearded white planter and a Black Jamaican man walks a long-faced clergyman; the caption has the planter ask 'Am not I a man and brother, too, Mr. Stiggins?'. Tells: the Dickens name 'Stiggins' used as a label for the critic, and the abolitionist slogan 'Man and Brother' turned to the planter's use.
