The left page holds two photographs, 'The Maine as it was' and 'The Maine as it is' (a wreck); the right page holds two photographs of emaciated Cuban civilians, labelled 'The starving Cubans (From photographs)'. The tell is the album layout: the ship's loss and the Cubans' hunger are set side by side under one slogan, and no cause is stated for either.
