# Russian War Posters (magazine page reproducing Soviet posters)

A magazine page reproduces Soviet war posters with English captions: Hitler drawn as a mad dog chained in a cage, a column of battered German soldiers returning from the Eastern front, and small cartoons of Hitler skewered on a bayonet. The tell in the reproduced posters is animal and grotesque caricature of the enemy leader (name-calling); the magazine text explains the posters and their production.

## Text on the object

Original (English / Russian) · read from the image, not independently checked

```
[Page text begins:] Here on these pages, in straightforward, dramatic colors, are some examples of Russia's war posters. Seen everywhere in the Soviet Union, in schools, farms, shop windows and at the fighting fronts, they carry to the Russian people a single hard-hitting message: "Beat that S. O. B. Hitler." [text continues]
"Chain It" is the simple caption used under this cartoon of Hitler as a mad dog in a cage. [text continues]
"What Hitler wants," Russians say, is "to give industry back to the bourgeoisie, sow the land with coffins, enslave free men. But he will be skewered on our bayonets."
[Russian on reproduced poster:] БЕРЛИН / ИС ВОСТОК
[Translation of the Russian: Berlin / From the East]
