# Britain... Base for Round-the-Clock Bombing

A map of Britain sends arrows to six panels, one for each part of the day, showing Typhoon, Mosquito, Spitfire, Flying Fortress, Beaufighter and heavy-bomber attacks on airfields, factories, trains, shipping and 'war production areas'. Only successful strikes are shown, with no losses or civilian effects, so the sequence can be read only as unbroken strength (card-stacking).

Typhoon fighter-bombers "sweep" airfields

Mosquito medium bombers attack shipyards,
power stations, factories, etc., from low level.

Spitfires shoot up locomotives with cannon fire

Flying Fortress high-level bomb raids destroy
vital industrial & military targets

Beaufighters torpedo Axis coastwise shipping

Lancaster, Stirling & Halifax heavy bombers
in mass raids blot out war production areas

Three years ago...
on September 15, 1940...
"the few" British pilots to whom
"so much is owed by so many"
won the aerial Battle of Britain
which preserved the island as
"the stationary aircraft carrier"
used by British & American bombers today.
