# Coastal Command Planes Have Flown Over 50,000,000 Miles on Patrol Duties

A photograph of a Bristol Beaufort bomber in flight over cloud carries a headline giving 50,000,000 patrol miles and a paragraph on bomb loads rising from two tons to eight tons. Mostly informational; the one technique is the 'For Freedom' slogan beside a Union flag, a virtue phrase attached to a statistical claim given without a comparison figure.

```
COASTAL COMMAND PLANES
HAVE FLOWN OVER 50,000,000 MILES
ON PATROL DUTIES
THE BRISTOL "BEAUFORT" BOMBER is a twin-engined plane of Coastal Command. It is used for patrolling the sea round Britain's coastline, watching for enemy U-boats and surface raiders. It is also used for bombing raids on enemy shipping and against enemy docks and harbours. Maximum bomb loads carried by the Royal Air Force have increased during the last three years from two tons to eight tons, and the largest bomb now used by the Royal Air Force weighs two tons.
