# For You to Produce Cold Someone Must Burn Fuel - Save Fuel for Battle!

A text-only sheet of six operating rules for refrigerating plant sits between the headline 'For you to produce cold someone must burn fuel' and the closing slogan 'Save fuel for battle!'. Only that slogan links routine plant maintenance to the fighting, which is the transfer tell; the rules themselves are technical instruction.

```
FOR YOU TO PRODUCE COLD
someone must burn fuel
To ensure that this is the smallest possible quantity, and that your Refrigerating Plant is always running at its maximum efficiency, observe the following rules:-
See that the plant is always kept free of air and foul gases, and the plant fully charged with the refrigerant.
Adjust the flow of Condenser cooling water so as to get an even distribution with the minimum quantity of water circulation.
See that the Condenser and Refrigerator cooling surfaces are kept clean and active.
If necessary, reduce heat losses by making temporary repairs to insulation with granulated cork, slag wool, or dry sawdust if nothing else is obtainable.
See that the temperatures produced are no lower than are necessary for the purpose for which the plant is used.
See that the plant is not run one minute longer than is required to carry out the work to be done.
