# 蘇俄不肯全力援助中共 (Soviet Russia Is Unwilling to Give China Full Aid), leaflet 7230

A Chinese-language cartoon leaflet: a pipe-smoking figure in an armchair marked with the character for Stalin's name sits with folded hands while a kneeling figure marked with the character for Zhou holds out a paper headed 'request aid, Mao Zedong'. The speech bubble gives casualties of 'nearly a million' and weapons losses 'beyond counting'. The tell is the unsourced casualty figure and the single reading offered for Soviet conduct: the leaflet presents one set of facts to prove the Soviet Union is withholding help.

## Text on the object

Original (Chinese (traditional characters), with a Korean note) · read from the image, not independently checked

```
[Right banner, vertical:] 蘇俄不肯全力援助中共
[Speech bubble:] 參加韓戰傷亡兵員將近百萬 損失武器不可計算 請求援助
[Paper held by kneeling figure:] 請求援助 毛澤東
[Character on Stalin figure's sleeve:] 史
[Character on kneeling figure's back:] 周
[Left edge, Korean, vertical, partly uncertain:] 이것은 중공군에게 보내는 우리의 글이니 그들이 볼수있게 전해주십시오 [uncertain]
[Lower left:] 7230
```

English translation (machine translation by Claude, not verified by a fluent reader)

```
[Banner] Soviet Russia is unwilling to give China full aid. [Bubble] The officers and men who took part in the Korean War, killed and wounded, nearly a million; weapons lost beyond counting; request aid. [Paper] Request aid, Mao Zedong. [Sleeve] Shi. [Back] Zhou. [Korean note] This is our writing to the Chinese Communist soldiers, so please pass it on so that they can see it.
```

The Korean edge note is small and low-resolution; its second line is the least certain reading. The sleeve and back characters are surname marks on the figures.
