# マラリヤを駆逐し、不毛の土地を沃野に。 (Drive out malaria and turn barren land into fertile fields) (Japanese poster distributed in Asia, U.N. Day Poster #8)

A Japanese-language photo poster on malaria control. Two men crouch at the edge of a water channel in tall grass, with a tray and a dipper, sampling the water. The text says a Himalayan foothill region farmed a thousand years ago became uncultivable because of malaria, that India launched a large drainage scheme with WHO and UNICEF help, and that people are settling the land again. The tell is transfer: the WHO and UNICEF names are attached to a promised before-and-after change.

```
Drive out malaria and turn barren land into fertile fields.
A thousand years ago a certain region at the foot of the Himalayas was a rich farming zone. But because of malaria, farming became impossible. To wipe out the mosquito, India drew up a vast drainage and land-reclamation plan, and the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF (U.N. International Children's Emergency Fund) extended a helping hand. Results have already begun to appear. People are beginning to settle on the fertile land that has again become human land.
