# The Vietnam War, December 31, 1971: may it rest in peace

Photograph of a gravestone in snow, inscribed "The Vietnam War / December 31, 1971", above the line "may it rest in peace". The tell is the borrowed funeral convention: an epitaph and a date are used to present the end of the war by a set date as a settled outcome, with the sponsor's New York box address at the foot.

Read from a 1024 px LoC scan; the inscription is legible and the dotted stone carvings carry no text.
