# Lupig pa sa amon an mananap! (Even lower than our animals) (Samar-Leyte poster distributed in the Philippines)

A purple-and-yellow poster reprinting a letter said to be from a German nun held with 1,500 others in a labour camp in Russia, ringed by drawings of guards whipping and beating nuns and of a bridge over the Dnieper. It asks readers to pray for the nuns. The tell is testimonial: an anonymous letter is vouched for only by the publications that carried it, with no checkable names or dates.

"Even Lower Than Our Animals!" (literal reading; Waray) / (Letter of a nun from Russia) / "Dear children: Compassion has come to me at last to write to you that I am still alive. Can you receive this? It has been long since we were sent to Russia. [...] Do not forget us! Pray for us! Help us! We are the pitiable, abandoned ones, in the depths of hardship. [...] / The astonishing situation of the imprisonment of 1,500 nuns in a corner of Russia came out and became known to others because one of the German nuns hid a letter that reached her relatives. This letter spread throughout Europe, and the account was read by the Christian Brothers in Beltsville, Md. It was written in a newspaper in Brooklyn, "The Crusader," and the experience of the nuns, their imprisonment and their plea to God, was translated into English from the German letter.
