Theodor Herzl's pamphlet of 1896 (*Der Judenstaat* in German) proposing the founding of a Jewish state, which became a founding text of political Zionism. This is the French printing of 1926 by Librairie Lipschutz in Paris, which reprinted the French version of 1896-97 and added an introduction by Baruch Hagani.

Standpoint of the introduction: Hagani, who had himself written on political Zionism and on Herzl (his own earlier titles are listed on the volume's page and left out here), presents Herzl in the opening lines as "le fondateur du sionisme politique" and presents the reprint as a service to French readers who wanted first-hand documentation of the movement. It is an advocate's introduction, not a critical edition, and it is kept so that the 1926 edition is shown as it was. The English revision of 1943-46 is a different edition and is not used here.
