2285 New Yorkers Volunteered in One Week. Is Your Name on This List?

A broadsheet poster prints several columns of names under the heading '2285 New Yorkers Volunteered in One Week,' grouped by Army, National Guard Enlistment, Naval Reserve, Marine Corps and Navy, framed by photographs and a panel of recruiting-station addresses. The tell of the bandwagon is the list itself: the reader is asked to find, or be missing from, a roll of neighbours who have already enlisted.

[left panel, upper picture, caption:] LIFE IN THE UNITED STATES TRAINING CAMPS
The value of a soldier is measured by his ability to shoot straight. Men who can't shoot have little business on the firing line. While hits are the most desired results in shooting, soldiers consider it a virtue to be able to shoot close enough to the enemy to make him nervous, so that either he seeks cover or his bullets go wild.

[list of units (Division Headquarters Troop, Signal Corps, Cavalry, Field Artillery, Sanitary Units, Infantry, Supply Train, Ammunition Train, Coast Artillery, Engineers, Quartermaster Enlisted Reserve) and NAVAL MILITIA, each with armory addresses: addresses too small to read reliably, not transcribed]

[left panel, lower picture, caption:] THAT BOMBPROOF SMILE
These are three officers of the Gordon Highlanders upon whose [illegible] seems to rest lightly. They are seated at the mouth of a dug-out, which is shown at the right of the picture. There are more smiles in the trenches now since America joined the ranks of the Allies, for the men know that when Columbia sounds her battle-cry her sons will answer as they always have when freedom called.

[right panel, upper picture, caption:] WHERE PERSHING WILL SOON BE
This photograph shows the British Commander, Sir Douglas Haig, and General Joffre consulting with Lloyd George. Nothing long such conferences will not be complete without the presence of our allies dear of America beside the French and British uniforms. France has long looked toward America for aid in driving out the invader, and there will be a royal welcome to the first troops that carry the Stars and Stripes under the Arch of Triumph at Paris.

[right panel, lower picture, caption:] SIGNALLING BY DAYLIGHT
Handily set up in the middle of a railroad track, this daylight lamp makes as good a messenger as the telegraph wire and stands less chance of being destroyed. It takes a keen eye and quick wit and is a wonderful training. Men who have served in the Signal Corps need never worry about being "equipped for the battle of life."

Truncated by design: the several thousand-name roster columns and the street addresses in the two 'You can enlist here' panels are not transcribed (marked in square brackets). Headings, week-ending lines, picture captions and the imprint are read from the 2000 px scan; the small captions are at the limit of legibility, so a few words are marked [illegible] or may be misread (the caption 'Where Pershing will soon be' has a garbled clause).
