Xây dựng Ấp Đời Mới tại xã Bình Long (Construction of New Life Hamlets at Binh Long Village)

A photo sheet describes the 7th Division's soldiers and Rural Construction cadres working with villagers in Binh Long village in 1967: rebuilding a footbridge, repairing a school, staffing a clinic, playing football with locals and building a house for a widow whose husband, it says, was killed in 1966 while following the Viet Cong. Smiling children and bicycles carry the 'ordinary village life' message. The tell: soldiers shown only as builders and neighbours, with the security mission stated in one paragraph and the Viet Cong named as the cause of loss.

CONSTRUCTION OF NEW LIFE HAMLETS AT BINH LONG VILLAGE

As the start of the pacification and new-life construction work in 1967, the soldiers of the 7th Division, together with the Rural Construction cadres, are cooperating with the people of Binh Long village, Hoa Binh district, Go Cong province, to build a new life with full security and prosperity for this village of Binh Long.
The task of the 7th Division's hard-working soldiers is to protect the people and drive the Viet Cong thugs out of the hamlets. Meanwhile the Rural Construction cadres, together with the people and the village council, check the population in the hamlet and gather the people's wishes.

Soldiers helped rebuild the bridge linking two hamlets in the village. When finished, this bridge helps villagers go to market and pupils go to school more easily.

Besides their duties, the soldiers of the 7th Division and Rural Construction cadres organise friendly football matches with the encouragement of the people.

The soldiers pooled their efforts to build a house for a widow whose husband fell in 1966 while following the bloodthirsty Viet Cong who were harming the people of the village.
