Coronation of the autocrat of protection (Puck)
Puck centerfold by Louis Dalrymple, 24 June 1896, after the Republican convention of 16-18 June at St. Louis: McKinley in royal robes places a crown labelled 'Nomination' on his own head, with Charles Grosvenor and Mark Hanna as high priests and Herman Kohlsaat as a page, while party leaders kneel. The royal imagery borrows the stigma of monarchy for the Republican nominee.
