McKinley's Easter Egg (Puck, 18 April 1900)
Chromolithograph by Louis Dalrymple in Puck, 18 April 1900 (v. 47, no. 1206, special Easter centerfold). McKinley, drawn as a top-hatted rooster, strokes his chin over a cracked egg lettered 'Vice-Presidential Aspirations' from which men's heads on chick bodies emerge; one chick at right, in glasses and a white hat, carries the label 'Teddy'. The press-cartoon device is to reduce the candidates for the second place on the ticket to chicks hatched by the president, which is a status-lowering label ([[name-calling]]) applied to McKinley and to every aspirant alike.
