Spike the Axis with war bonds, boost your payroll savings
War bond poster: two railway workers in overalls drive spikes into a rail with sledgehammers on an open track, under 'Spike the Axis' and 'with War Bonds boost your Payroll Savings'. Ordinary labourers stand for the buyer (plain-folks), and the hammer-blow is carried over onto the enemy through the slogan (transfer).
