Churchill and Stalin, 14-23 August (Dieppe), Ľudové noviny

A three-panel strip dated 14, 19 and 23 August shows a red-coated, star-marked Stalin ordering a bowler-hatted Churchill to open a second front, a German soldier above sinking British ships, and both leaders weeping on the telephone. The tell: the accompanying text calls Stalin the 'bloody ruler of Moscow' and draws both leaders as comic figures.

14. augusta
Stalin rozkazuje Churchillovi

14 August
Stalin orders Churchill to set up a second front

On 14 August Churchill was on a visit to Moscow to see Stalin. The world knew that this was not a courtesy visit, but that Churchill was there for orders given to him by the bloody ruler of Moscow. This order was: set up a second front, to ease the Bolsheviks' position in the pincers of the German and allied armies. On 19 August Churchill carried out Stalin's order and ordered a large landing of several divisions on the French coast at Dieppe. The German army, however, gave Churchill a sharp lesson. Detailed reports speak of the result and failure of this undertaking. How Stalin looked when Churchill reported the result of the second-front attempt to him on 23 August is best shown by this picture (Stalin wails).
