Zes maanden later (Six Months Later), De Tribune, Communist Party daily, with 'Indonesië los van Holland'

Front page of the Dutch Communist daily, Monday 25 April 1927, leading with 'Zes maanden later' on the repression of the Indonesian uprisings and ending with a boxed call to protest at May meetings: 'Indonesië los van Holland'. The tells: opponents are labelled 'afvallige', 'society-man' and 'imperialistische benden' (name-calling), and the lead article announces it quotes only 'enkele gedeelten' of a Social Democrat's letter, those on military reprisals (card-stacking).

DE TRIBUNE — REVOLUTIONAIR VOLKSBLAD — ORGAAN COMMUNISTISCHE PARTIJ [...] NEDERLAND SECTIE COMMUNISTISCHE INTERNATIONALE
No. 147. 20e JAARGANG. MAANDAG 25 APRIL 192[7: partly obscured]

Jantje de Roode schiet uit zijn slof.
Een „deskundige" over de Chineesche revolutie.

Zes maanden later.

No. 147. 20th YEAR. MONDAY 25 APRIL 192[7: partly obscured]

Little Jan the Red slips up.
An 'expert' on the Chinese revolution.

Six months later.
Of Indies 'Sea Beggars' [geuzen], a Stokvis - and a sea of blood.

To show how things went on Sumatra's West Coast in putting down the uprising, we quote a few extracts from an 'Indies Letter' in 'Het Volk' of 22 April, by J. E. Stokvis: —

'In Bantam and on Sumatra's West Coast the army has intervened, and in the cruellest Aceh-days manner. Disgraceful incidents are reported from Bantam, but still too uncertain to make public'.

'These insurgents are called "rampokkers" (robbers), "murderers", "rascals", but they were that on land just as our Sea Beggars were on the sea. Real rebels, sparing nothing — not even in their own circle, where [illegible]ful death sentences were carried out on unreliable people!'

[...] Then Stokvis cheered. Then the 'Indische Volk' cheered. Then 'Het Volk' — the 'daily of the workers' party' — cheered.
And this cannot be undone.
They must bear the responsibility.

Comrades! Protest in your May meetings against the actions of the imperialist gangs against our Indonesian mates, — protest against their advocates, who call themselves 'socialist' and can do nothing but plead for moderation and judicious extermination of the Indonesian revolutionaries, — and demand with us the absolute right of self-determination for the peoples of Indonesia —

Indonesia free from Holland.

The Hoensbroek S.D.A.P. in an uproar.
(S.) 'Het Volk' reports that the 'renegade' brother K. v. d. Broek is standing as first candidate of the Communist list in the municipal election in Hoensbroek.

Selected passages only (headline block, the quoted passages of the lead article, the boxed call to protest and the first sentence of the Hoensbroek item). '[...]' marks omitted text; the masthead's middle words are partly hidden by a crease. The word before 'elijke doodvonnissen' is cut at a column edge in the scan; the date line is crossed by a crease. 'Atjeh', 'Isvestija'-style spellings are kept as printed.
