Content note: Partisan 1919 editorial in Fraktur type labelling the clerical Right's campaign 'Desperadopolitik' and its opponents' cause as freedom against 'Dunkelheit und Sklaverei'. This object is shown as it was published. Why
Die Volkstribüne, front page "Die Signatur der Wahlen" (Luxembourg, 29 October 1919)
Front page of Die Volkstribüne, 29 October 1919, three days after Luxembourg's first general election under universal suffrage with proportional representation. The lead editorial 'Die Signatur der Wahlen' reads the result as a victory of the clerical Right and says the Right's campaign painted 'Bolschewismus' as a bloodthirsty devil, calling it 'Desperadopolitik' and closing with a call for the Left to resume 'den ewigen Kampf der Freiheit und des Fortschritts gegen Dunkelheit und Sklaverei'. The tells are the loaded labels for opponents and the virtue words standing in for a programme.

Text on the object
Die Volkstribüne — La Tribune de Luxembourg Demokratisch-republikanische Tageszeitung — Journal démocratique-républicain Nr. 133. Luxemburg-Bahnhof, Mittwoch, den 29. Oktober 1919. 21. Jahrg. ... Aus aller Welt. Politisches und Wirtschaftliches. ...
Die Volkstribüne — The Tribune of Luxembourg Democratic-republican daily newspaper — Democratic-republican journal No. 133. Luxembourg-Bahnhof, Wednesday, 29 October 1919. 21st year. The Signature of the Elections. Only the violent seize the kingdom of heaven for themselves; so, or similarly, it stands somewhere in the Bible. Although at the hour we write these lines the definitive election result is not yet known, a clerical majority is nonetheless regarded as certain. It has been established that the two wings, on the right the clericals and on the left the socialists, are advancing, while the more moderate centre has suffered badly and has fallen behind. ... Hence at the previous elections their fraternisation with the Kappweiler group against the 'Bloc', or, as the battle cry ran, against 'the ironworks lords and large property'; hence this time the opposite slogan against 'Bolshevism', which they painted on the wall as a bloodthirsty devil. Even if such desperado politics cannot quite be called honest, people who pursue their 'truth' and their 'right' at the expense of the community sometimes achieve their goal momentarily by it. ... But we console ourselves with the thought that everything that can be undertaken against truth and justice must in the end serve it. From the excess of evils the remedy will come to us! [French in the original] Stirred from their lethargic sleep by the momentary success of reaction, those on the Left who are still undecided will reflect and organise, in order to join the eternal struggle of freedom and progress against darkness and slavery. On the conclusion of peace. The surrender of the German merchant fleet. ... From all the world. Political and economic. ...

Only the masthead, the lead editorial headline and the passages quoted are transcribed; '...' marks omitted body text, and the remaining columns (peace-treaty and foreign news) are not transcribed. Fraktur type at this resolution is clear in the editorial but some words may be misread; 'Hüttenherrn' follows the printed spelling.
