Content note: Republican Spanish poster with racial caricatures of turbaned and fez-wearing figures and stereotyped depictions of a cleric and a financier, shown uncropped as published. This object is shown as it was published. Why
Los Nacionales, Ministerio de Propaganda poster (Republican Spain, 1937)
Colour poster showing a small boat labelled 'Junta de Burgos, Lisboa' carrying caricatured figures: a uniformed officer with a cannon, a cardinal giving a blessing, a stout man in a suit with a swastika badge holding a money bag, a turbaned man and a fez-wearing rifleman, with a bird on the mast and a paper reading 'Arriba España', over the title 'Los Nacionales' and 'Ministerio de Propaganda'. The tell: the whole Nationalist side is reduced to a boat-load of stock types (army, church, foreign capital and Germany, colonial troops), so a political and military coalition is reduced to a cartoon.
