Content note: Newspaper page attributing robbery, assault and arson to a collective 'bad/unruly Koreans' after the 1923 Kanto earthquake; photographs of earthquake ruins. This object is shown as it was published. Why
每日申報 (Maeil Sinbo), 10 September 1923, p. 3: "不良朝鮮人의暴動은如斯" (the "unruly Koreans' riot" after the Kanto earthquake)
Page 3 of the Korean-language Maeil Sinbo, nine days after the Kanto earthquake, runs the largest headline in the centre of the page over the Martial Law Commander's statement: "Robbery, assault, arson planned: the riot of the 不良朝鮮人 (bad/unruly Koreans) is thus; order restored, minds wholly calm". The tell is the group label 不良朝鮮人 attached to the listed crimes, set beside a reassurance line, over photographs of the ruined city.

Read from a 1920 px render of the 1280 px hosted image; the article body is only partly reproduced (opening column), with [illegible] and [...] where the print is too small or damaged to read with confidence. Old orthography and absent spaces in the original are normalised to word spacing. 不良 (Korean 불량, Japanese furyō) is translated 'unruly/bad' because both senses are in use; the term was an official label of the period.
