DAERAH BARATLAUT AMERIKA SERIKAT Daerah ini disebelah Barat berbataskan Pegunungan Rocky dan terdiri atas negara-bagian-negarabagian Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah dan Wyoming. Ini adalah suatu daerah dengan Padang² Luas, iklim² keras, sangat panas dan sangat dingin, angin ribut jang berulang-ulang, puntjak² gunung, dan tanah² lapang jang sangat luas. Ladang² gandum dan djagung terdapat terbanjak di-dataran² rendah. Tembaga, minjak tanah, garam, timah hitam, seng, emas dan perak merupakan hasil² penting jang lain, tetapi peternakan dan pertanian mengatasi usaha² lain didaerah jang berpenduduk djarang ini. Taman² Nasional jang sangat luas, kaja dengan keindahan-keindahan alam jang menakdjubkan, menarik hati be-ribu² orang berlibur setiap tahun. Sun Valley, di Idaho, suatu tempat berlibur dan pusat olahraga jang terkenal di Amerika Serikat. Olahraga meliputi golf, ski, skats, pengéretan oleh andjing, berburu dengan perangkap, berenang. NORTHWEST REGION OF THE UNITED STATES This region lies west of the Rocky Mountains and consists of the states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. It is a region of wide plains, harsh climates, very hot and very cold, repeated storms, mountain peaks and very large open land. Wheat and corn fields are found mostly on the low plains. Copper, petroleum, salt, lead, zinc, gold and silver are other important products, but livestock raising and farming outweigh other enterprises in this thinly populated region. Very large National Parks, rich in marvellous natural beauty, attract thousands of people to holiday every year. Sun Valley, in Idaho, a well-known holiday place and sports centre in the United States. Sports include golf, skiing, skating, dog-sled riding, trapping, swimming. After farming, industry has important meaning. Here concrete models are ready to be tested for strength and durability at the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, in Denver, Colorado. Wheat and corn grow on every wide plain here, one of the world's great 'bread baskets'.
