Tự-túc (Self-Support)
A sheet (code SP-2134) sets out a step-by-step procedure in line drawings: villagers meet and decide on a project such as a bridge or road, draw up an estimate, send the petition through the village council to district and province, receive building materials, contribute labour, and finish the work. The closing banner reads 'Compatriots, improve your own lives'. The tell is the sequence of ordinary people and a promised official response that casts self-help as the villagers' own path.

SELF-SUPPORT Traffic is interrupted because the bridge is broken and the road is muddy. Do you, compatriots, want to repair the bridge and pave the road with cement? Or build a new bridge? Surely everyone wants their hamlet to have a solid bridge and fine roads... So, compatriots, get together to discuss and decide which practical project needs to be carried out. After agreeing, draw up an estimate including the budget planned for carrying out the project and building materials such as cement, iron and roofing tin. After that, ask the village council to forward your petition to the district and province, together with the estimate and the minutes of the people's meeting. The district chief will inform you of the result. The provincial administration will carry the building materials right to the spot. Once you have the materials, join together to contribute labour and other materials. The project is completed well. So you have your wish fulfilled. In addition, the provincial administration will consider petitions to build wells, latrines, roads, markets and so on... with the aim of bringing the people a peaceful and happy life in the hamlet.
